“Transforming the Future for People and Planet” Event at United Nations Headquarters Announced the People+Planet Project, a New Action Network for Social Good to Support the Sustainable Development Goals
New Platform Will Launch Its First Phase January 1, 2016, to Help the World Achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals Over the Next 15 Years
NEW YORK, NY, Oct 2, 2015 – Days after the United Nations General Assembly adopts the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a new post-2015 initiative to support these universal objectives was introduced at an event in the UN Visitors Plaza “We the Peoples Hub.”
The People+Planet Project (P+PP), an initiative from The Global Brain Foundation and PVBLIC Foundation, is a new action network for social good created to support the SDGs over the next 15 years. On September 29, the P+PP was unveiled to the public at an event called “Transforming the Future for People and Planet.”
Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Post-2015 Development Planning, appeared at the event to speak about the SDGs and the P+PP.
“What you’ve had to show us is amazing,” said Ms. Mohammed to Vega-Berry in regard to the P+PP’s development. “[The] People+Planet [Project] is about connecting communities, solutions, and challenges to try to make [the goals] real over time. We’ve got 15 years; a 15-mile hike.”
Founder of The Global Brain and the P+PP Natalia Vega-Berry created the P+PP platform to empower a community of individuals, businesses, nonprofits, NGOs, and organizations to consume consciously, profit responsibly and live purposefully to achieve the SDGs.
“This is a great opportunity for the global community, as we are just beginning to understand the possibilities we can create for the future,” said Vega-Berry. “People are demanding change. We want more sustainable and inclusive business models. We must be disruptive and bold as we work together to change the world’s ecosystem and achieve the SDGs.”
Chairman and Co-Founder of PVBLIC Foundation Sergio Fernandez de Cordova stated: “We highly value our partnership with P+PP as it highlights the imperative need for reciprocal and transparent partnerships in order to accomplish the SDGs.”
“We welcome the involvement of Amina J. Mohammed, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Post-2015 Development Planning, Christina Gallach, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, and Dan Thomas, Communications Director and Spokesperson for the President of the United Nations General Assembly, 70th Session in launching P+PP,” said Mr. Fernandez de Cordova, “as it reinforces the commitment to the underlying mission of #SDG 17, which emphasizes that it is through partnerships that success will be made possible. Each of the goals are interconnected and we must work together in order to create impact.”
During the event, Theo Cosmora, the founder and CEO of SocialEco, shared a surprise presentation of the SDG Games with the event’s attendees, a new initiative in collaboration with the P+PP and PVBLIC Foundation that aims to create awareness around the SDGs through engaging, educational games.
“We developed the world’s first SDG games, beginning with two games, SDG1 and SDG3, that focus on the first and third of the SDG, poverty and health, respectively,” said Cosmora. “The SDG Games will help creative global awareness of the SDGs and their objectives through simple, educational mobile games. Increased awareness and education on the goals via fun and competitive mobile games will accelerate their achievement.”
SocialEco is dedicated to empowering a cutting edge and holistic Social Economy Ecosystem that empowers people, builds business, and supports the planet.
Jules Schroeder, founder of CreateU and an early collaborator with the P+PP, told the event’s attendees about her new online platform to reimagine higher education.
“CreateU’s focus is to educate our youth with relevant skills, like how to share ideas, network with peers, and become conscious consumers, so the next generation has the resources needed to reshape our planet,” said Shroeder. “Education is the starting block for transformation and upgrading the current global system to help us accomplish these goals.”
Launching its first phase January 1, 2016, the P+PP platform will support the global community’s necessary shift to more sustainable lifestyles and business models. The P+PP will provide content, tools, and calls to action to facilitate this transformation and help make the SDGs a mainstream priority until 2030.
The Global Brain is a creative-innovation agency headquartered in Boulder, CO, that works collectively to promote causes, organizations, and brands that support a sustainable future.
The first two SDG Games created by SocialEco, SDG1 and SDG3, are available to download now from the Android Play Store. IOS versions of the games are due to be launched on the Apple App store in October 2015. SocialEco has developed four other games and are refining them to launch a minimum of 10 SDG Games to cover the main SDGs sectors.
