Impact Hub NYC and Bard MBA in Sustainability Program Announce New Speaker Series: The Sustainable Business Series

Launches with Author Ben Bingham & New Book, Making Money Matter: Impact Investing to Change the World

NEW YORK, NY, Sep 18, 2015 –  Impact Hub NYC, a coworking and events space for social impact professionals taking action to drive positive change, announces its NEW speaker series with the Bard MBA in Sustainability program: The Sustainable Business Series. Impact Hub NYC is part of MissionHUB, a network of Impact Hub coworking campuses in San Francisco, Berkeley, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., and the Social Capital Markets Conference (SOCAP) for impact investing.

“We live in a world that believes the primary purpose of money is to make more money. What we invest in matters little, as long as those investments generate handsome returns. This dangerous belief is based on a fundamental misconception that you can’t make money and do good at the same time. Benjamin Bingham … has the courage to dispel this myth and show you how you can make money by aligning your investments with your values.”

— Jeffrey Hollender, Co-Founder, Executive Chairperson, Seventh Generation, Inc., co-founder of the American Sustainable Business Council.

Tonight, Ben Bingham will discuss his new book, introducing the audience to the dysfunctional nature of the current financial framework and points to ways this can be healed. Its overview of the SRI world will inspire investors to push their advisors’ envelope while providing new strategies to meet the demand for positive impact. It provides a philosophical basis for transforming our view of money from an end unto itself to a means to change the world.

This talk is part of the NEW Sustainable Business Series (SBS) offered by the Bard MBA in Sustainability & Impact Hub NYC. The SBS brings leaders in sustainable business to New York City to foster conversation around cutting-edge ideas.

“We are proud to launch this series in partnership with the Bard MBA in Sustainability program,” says Sam Utne, Managing Director, Impact Hub NYC. “This is a perfect example of ‘impact investing’ events we are excited to offer year-round to align better with the rest of our MissionHUB family and SOCAP-themed content. We welcome the opportunity to partner with great academic institutions who are supporting our community with resources and offering access to world-class thought leadership.”

Mr. Bingham’s book provides a bridge to a new money paradigm for people who care about the planet and society at large. It is designed to inspire and connect deeply felt values to practical financial understanding and advice. This new approach covers all aspects of money from everyday transactions to high impact investment options, describing a new investment paradigm that will support both reasonable returns and long-term societal and planetary health.
